| Star Trek & Halloween This makes me want to carve pumpkins! I haven't done that since I was 8 or 9. My dad used to grow the cute little pumpkins for us to carve.
I would totally carve one of judge Q! via Technabob
The Evolution of a Geek
I totally take issue with this, tho. I'm obviously a Pop Culture Geek with a heavy Star Trek Geek emphasis. But I'm also a Design Geek and Glee Geek, but I've never been an Urkel Ubergeek or much of a Tech Geek. Granted, I have tech tendencies, but I'm pretty stupid about tech these days (I was far more of a Tech Geek in high school). But, I mean, c'mon, I have never been Geek Chic. Sure, I wear glasses with a black plastic frame, but that's because I need glasses, contacts freak me out, and these were the only pair I could find that I liked (I have really bad vision and couldn't see very well to try on glasses; always take a buddy for judgement sake; I obviously have a good excuse for not realizing I was buying Hilary Duff frames- but they are cute). Anyway, that too say, um, hello! Star Trek geek is not a final landing place for a Pop Culture Geek! I'm offended. Which...I think that minor rant just made me sound even geekier. via Flowtown
Inspiring Fandom
Back in the day, college days, I was obsessed with Billy Boyd (read: Peregrin "Pippin" Took). I used to know all kinds of great, well done fan sites. My favorite was Boydism.net run by Sammy, but at some point after my fandom began to wane that site was given over to run by another webmistress and the site slowly went down hill until it died. Sad. Now my fandoms run so amuck and I have to pretend to be an adult (and have not internet at home), so I don't have the time to focus on any one site. I know good sites for fandoms, but not the best ones to follow. I have come across this site, tho. It's a good compilation of a couple different fandoms, so it makes things slightly easier.
The Hobbit
On another note of former obsessions...this one may be coming back!
Thanks to ThinkGeek's post on Facebook, I found out the most recent news on The Hobbit.
Martin Freeman has been cast as Bilbo! My first question was, "Who's Martin Freeman?" After a little trip over to IMDB I was smacking myself ("Should have had a V8.") Oh, hello, Arthur Dent, I love you. Then Watson and now Bilbo. Awesomesauce!
If you're curious about the Hobbits being cast or general movie information, I will forever recommend TORn. Even as a waning fandom, whenever I've thought to check on updates about The Hobbit I've always gone straight to them.
Doctor Who OST
::SPOILER ALERT::
I do a lot of data entry. This morning, knowing I was going to be staring at my computer screen for several hours, I put my whole WMP library on random. That didn't last. The Doctor Who: Series 4 OST started around the 3rd or 4th track and I had to switch over to just that album. I've been lisenting to it on repeat since 8:30 this morning. I love this album so much. I haven't had the chance to get ahold of any of the soundtracks from any of the other series yet, but this one alone is A-mazing! I really didn't like Series 4. It was Donna. I hated Donna. She was a jerk. But for one episode she was amazing. She was brilliant! She was Doctor Donna. For a moment she was the best version of herself and I wanted her to stay. But she couldn't she would have died. The Doctor had to lose the best companion he'd ever had, if only for a few minutes, and turn her back into jerk-Donna. I cried. I did. After that episode, tho, I ended up loving Series 4. The first time I put the OST in my car stereo I turned it up almost full blast and pretended I was in the TARDIS, headed down the road to an adventure.
| Well, this seemed like it was going to be a long week. But it's gone by really fast!
We're in the middle with Prefield Orientation for new missionaries. It's kind of neat to see all the people milling around the office that I've been looking at the files of for months. I imagine the spring orientation will be even neater as I've been working with most of their files from the git-go. The current ones I've only worked on the tail-end of their files.
I'm feeling loads better! I have a voice. I can breath. I just have a lot of sinus drainage going on that's bugging the daylights out of me. Actually, when I get up in the morning I'm just fine, but after I use my prescription nasal spray stuff is when the drainage starts. I'd rather stop, but I'm following a House-ism here. For every prescription not finished is an sickness not healed. Just because I feel good doesn't mean there's not still an infection that needs to go away! Maybe this will take care of my sinuses once and for all and the battle I've been fighting for over a year will at last ease up.
On that note, my throat feels wonky.
Allen's leaving for KC tonight when he gets off work. His sister's wedding is on Saturday. He's a groomsman. I was invited, but the wedding happens to be on Celia's birthday and my niece obviously takes precedence.
This is what I'm looking at today.
It's amazing the effort it takes to poorly edit a photo to make it safe to post.

| I currently have what the doctor told me was Pharyngitis. The doctor prescribed a corticosteroid.
I say the doctor is wrong. Because I'm getting worse, not better.
Woke up Monday with a sore and swollen throat so I went to the doctor and took the day off.
Woke up Monday night unable to breath.
Woke up Tuesday stopped up but went to work anyway. Felt miserable.
Went to bed last night not feeling miserable, but my back was sore and my voice was starting to go.
Woke up this morning with no voice. Missy's concerned b/c I can't meow at her.
I'm at work, whispering my way thru, but I'm planning to leave at lunch and go home to relax and try to feel better.
I know I'm not actually sick, tho.
Something with my sinuses is just seriously screwed up. Pretty sure it's a sinus infection if not something more.
| Woke up this morning and it was a might chilly!
My kitty actually semi-cuddled with me in bed for the first time last night. This weekend was spent trying to turn her into a cuddler. You basically have to holder her hostage on your lap and pet her hard. She'll relax and hang out after a while. When I went bed last night, tho, she curled up by my feet. Whenever I woke up during the night she was still there. Not until I got up and kept resetting my alarm this morning did she leave.
Or so I thought, until I found the papertowel roll unrolled and scratched up.
Missy's not a brat. She's just testing me. It's actually pretty funny to see what she tries to get away with.
My hand is actually hurting really bad while I'm typing this. I have Guyan's Canal Syndrome. No, not diagnosed by a doctor. I don't have $ to waste on someone telling me something I can figure out for myself and that the only cure is to relax it and refrain from the activities that caused it. Guyan's is basically the same thing as Carpal Tunnel, but, instead of the Median nerve that runs thru the Carpal Tunnel in your wrist and effects your thumb, index finger, and middle finger, this is the Ulnar nerve that runs thru the Guyan's Canal in your wrist and effects your ring finger and pinky.
It started hurting last Friday. I was just sitting at my computer, holding the mouse, when my ring finger and pinky started hurting like I'd smacked my hand against something. I hadn't, so I didn't think much about it. But it still hurt just as bad Saturday morning and also effected my wrist, so Saturday afternoon I got out my Ace bandages and did some research. Basically, between computer work, crocheting, using/playing with my cell phone, and all the painting I've been doing, I've been putting a lot of pressure on my ulnar nerve. So now I'm wearing a wrist brace that's supposed to help with Carpal Tunnel (and I'm hoping Guyan's) and doing a lot of pecking at my keyboard. I'm gonna try to see if I can get an ergonomic keyboard to help at work. And I have to give up so much crocheting for a while. :(
Yeah, so not that anyone actually cares about that, but I wanted to record the info. for my sake.
I spent part of my weekend backtracking thru Xanga trying to remember when I had tendonitis. Finally managed to find the entries. It started August 30th. And that's why I love having my Xanga. It's such an awesome record of my life for the past seven years.
That's why I'm making myself type this up. 'Cause, believe me, this HURTS like the DICKENS! So I won't really be blogging much for a while, but I do want to keep up with my Xanga enough for future reference.
Oh yeah, Allen and I saw Dinner for Schmucks last night. Pretty good!
And I had some really bad coffee from a really good shop yesterday, so that really annoyed me. I know it was bad because it was from a region of coffee I don't like, but it was really disappointing to order a house blend coffee expecting a nice, smooth, medium roast (like house should be), and get really acidic mild roast instead. I had sampled the brew of the day and said no b/c it was a specific region I didn't like. And then the house ended up being the same region. That's not how that's supposed to work. Sorry, I know, I'm a coffee snob, but I had really been looking forward to a good cup of coffee and I could barely drink that stuff! Even doctored up with cream and sugar I would have rathered a cup from McDonald's, which is really saying something!
